I had one of those moments with Ava at Caleb's soccer practice. I was talking to another parent and didn't see Ava wander off. Had other parents help me search. Found her on a picnic bench by the parking lot. Completely freaked me out! Jacob mentioned buying one of those leashes saying a soccer field is a prime location for a crazy felon to grab a wandering child and drive off, but I shot it down. Still gives me chills thinking about it.

Wandering from Pierre's Venice over to Kate's Minnesota, I found you and these lovely pictures. I moved from DC to Vienna a year and a half ago, and that last pictures seems to be of the kind of cherry tress we had in our front yard. Every year, when the blooms starting falling off, I closed of our circular driveway to enjoy that beautiful pink carpet of blossoms as long as possible.

We did away with our dining room table (it's in our daughter's new house now) to make more room for practice in the dining room. I got a folding table to take its place, which you can sort of see behind my cello in my profile picture on my blog. This table unfolds to comfortably seat 8, but more can squeeze in. We pretty much only use the dining room for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, so it made sense to do this now that the kids are grown up and on their own.

God bless the nights when the kids go to bed.....HAPPY! At what age does one's resistance to going to bed turn into day long yearning for mattress contact? I swear, there are days when my heart's desire is for someone to say "You are SO going to bed early young (old) lady!"
In our last house, the master bathroom did not have a window, but it DID have this delicious corner jetted tub. I hated soaking in it because the room was so "empty" and personality-less. So I ordered a fabulous "wallpaper" painting/mural online of a scene overlooking a Mediterranean bay. When applied to the wall, it made the bather feel like they were soaking in tub on a tiled balcony on a hill above the water. But it didn't add any "light" ambiance...so...
I took a string of white holiday lights and wrapped it around the length of two long dowels, and then wrapped the whole thing with silk grapevines. I hung the dowels on teacup hooks screwed into the wall near the ceiling, and stapled (carefully) the no-light part of the cord to the vanity mirror edge. The plug ended up perfectly situated to be plugged into one of the outlets that was next to the sinks for easy on/off use.
It was heaven. I used to take long baths in the "fake" candlelight/twilight while gazing out over the blue lagoon on the wall. Moms NEED that kind of down time and it cost me nothing to enjoy such pampering.
*The ceiling was 10 feet up and there was no way my children could reach the lights themselves, and they weren't able to reach the outlet from the tub either. Even if one of the dowels fell down, the second dowel and hooks would have prevented it from reaching the tub. When we listed the house for sale, every solid bid came from a couple who raved about the "romantic", "cool", "incredible" master bath. LOL
**P.S.S.-We did a "faux" plaster finish on the walls too and then I framed each doorway with totally FAKE "rock slices" that I made out of foam insulation core and painted, dry brushed, and GLUED to the wall. Seriously. As tacky as it sounds, I got asked endlessly how I managed to get "rock" to "stick to the walls".

In the 80's, Kennesaw passed a law REQUIRING every home owner to own at least one firearm in order to defend their family and home. Within 3 years of this law being passed, the number of violent crimes dropped almost 85%. It has stayed this low ever since. 7. There's a man on 43rd street in Manhattan, a block away from grand central station. Every day this guy sets up a table, and puts out cardboard boxes full of unopened plastic packages. Future Cardboard Gods, I guess you could call them. This block isn't particularly tourist-filled, as they'd run towards the 'I Heart NYC' stores or be too busy glancing up to see the Chrysler building tower over Grand Central to notice a simple folding table cluttered with boxes and boxes of cards.
It's the office guys who stop. It's hard not to, when an unopened silver package of 15 cards has Ken Griffey Jr. on it's cover with '$3.50 or 2/$5' scribbled on it in black marker glisten shines up at you.
That guy is a priest. And that folding table is an alter for the Cardboard Gods. =)
